The NEW Indie Lee Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 : An Affordable Clean SPF

08.05.22 | trazeyg | No Comments

When a new sunscreen comes out, I’m always excited to test it out. In this case, it is the Indie Lee Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30. I was even more excited to try this product because I have never tried anything from Indie Lee.

I’ve been trying to find a mineral sunscreen that actually works for me. I’ve tried several mineral sunscreens. I have yet to find one that does not leave a white cast and doesn’t take forever to apply.

I’ve tested out the Cerave Mineral Sunscreen and the Biossance Squalane + Zinc Oxide Sheer Mineral Sunscreen. I’ve also purchased the Saie Sunvisor Sunscreen and tested it out once.

Out of all the mineral sunscreens I’ve tried, I would rate the Biossance sunscreen the highest, then the Saie Sunvisor, but I would definitely steer clear from the Cerave Mineral Sunscreen.

I’m hoping that the Indie Lee Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 would be my next favorite sunscreen.

Mineral Sunscreen Issues

My biggest issue with mineral sunscreens is the white cast. During the colder months, I have pretty light skin, but even then, I find that it doesn’t blend correctly. In fact, there is an apparent white cast. It wouldn’t be as big of a deal if I wore make-up more often, but I really do not.

At the same time, I do not feel like I should have to wear makeup to hide the white cast in my sunscreen.

A smaller issue is how hard mineral sunscreens are to blend into the skin. I feel like they are predominantly thicker than chemical sunscreens. It takes a significantly longer time to get the product to melt into the skin.

I’m always a proponent for loving your products. I feel like if you don’t you end up skipping steps.

Sunscreen is one of the most important parts of the morning routine. Applying sunscreen should be enjoyable.

Indie Lee Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30

Indie Lee is a clean beauty brand rooted in natural ingredients.

The product I’m focusing on is the Indie Lee Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30. It is a new skincare release. I received the product through Octoly, which is where I frequently test out new releases.

Main Ingredients: Zinc Oxide, Shea Butter, Aloe, and Squalane.

Price: $42 for 100ml or 3.3 fl oz available at IndieLee.com.

How to use: Shake the container before disbursing. Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every two hours.

Indie Lee Mineral Sunscreen First Impressions

Automatically, the first thing that comes to mind about this sunscreen is that it is THICK. The consistency is definitely heavy and it is a bit hard to spread on the skin.

I use the two finger sunscreen rule and with this sunscreen a little bit definitely goes a long way.

The second thing I will note is that I observed a significant amount of white cast even after attempting to blend it into the skin for some time.

This sunscreen is also heavy. I wonder if it would be better to use it without moisturizer since it does have some moisturizing properties.

It did leave my skin relatively more oilier than normal. I am an oily skin gal. My skin was already oily after I took my morning shower and applied my morning products which doesn’t normally happen until a couple hours later.

When I did take a nap, I felt like my skin felt better as far as oil. It might be because of my pillow but I just wanted to report my experience as accurately as possible.

I also tested it out on my arm and I actually like it as a body sunscreen. I’m not sure if I would continue to use it for my face but I would definitely use it for my arms and legs.

The price point is pretty good! To put it into perspective, the Indie Lee Mineral Sunscreen is $42 for 100 ml while the Biossance Mineral Sunscreen is $30 for 50 ml. The Biossance sunscreen has similar ingredients.

Overall Thoughts

The Indie Lee Mineral Sunscreen has a great price point. It has clean ingredients. Unfortunately, I did notice a white cast on my skin and takes too blend to the skin. I don’t think I wouldn’t purchase it for my face but I did like it as a body sunscreen.

If you are interested in more sunscreen recommendations, I did write a blog post on my favorite sunscreens and ones to avoid.
