Something about trying out a new sunscreen that makes me so excited about the possibilities. I just emptied a sunscreen this weekend and I thought that I should open up the new release from Skin Proud. Skin Proud released the Serious Shade SPF 50. It’s been receiving pretty good reviews on social media, so I definitely wanted to test it out.
Before I get into the newly opened sunscreen, I wanted to do a final review on the one I just finished. The one I just finished is Dr. Althea’s Cica Relief Sun Essence. The brand reached out to me on Instagram for a paid collaboration and I was able to try out their Cica Relief Sun Essence and the Resveratrol Repair Cream.
Dr. Althea Cica Relief Sun Essence
I really liked this sunscreen! I was surprised about how much I liked it actually. It was easy to apply and it has soothing properties with the cica. This is the first spf I’ve used that is green, which really threw me off at first, but it really does remind me of an aloe product, I will say that even though I didn’t mind it as an oily girl, I think this sunscreen would work the best for individuals with dry skin.
It made my skin a little bit dewy and borderline oily some days. I didn’t really mind that, but if you’re someone who enjoys more of a matte finish, then this might not be the one for you. It does really blend into the skin perfectly and quickly with no fuss. I even used this on my kids and they had fun using it.
It does have a scent, which I don’t mind. It’s a natural scent, a little bit earthy. I know scents can make and break a product for some so I would definitely keep that in mind.
Available for $22 at Dr. Althea.
Skin Proud Serious Shade SPF 50
The Skin Proud Serious Shade SPF is a new release from the brand. Although I haven’t used a lot of products from the brand, I already had a positive image of the brand from the ones that I have tried. I’ve tried some body care from them, they smell amazing.
Back to the main product. The main active ingredients are Avobenzone, Homosalate, Octisalate, and Octocrylene. When it comes to sunscreen, I’m always worried that a product has Oxybenzone, so knowing that this did not have it is already a check in the book for me.
I am always hesitant to try out sunscreens that aren’t from Asian skincare brands because I haven’t really found many that actually work for me. A lot of Western sunscreens give me either a white cast or the unfortunate eye sting.
SKIN PROUD SERIOUS SHADE FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Serious Shade has a light, milky consistency that I enjoy. When applied, it feels a little bit cooling at first, then it blends easily to the skin. It has absolutely no white cast. For reference, I have light-medium skin. It’s one of those sunscreens that you enjoy actually using and putting on.
I had no issues with it so far, although I haven’t tested it underneath makeup yet. I hope that I don’t find any adverse reactions as I continue to use it. Unfortunately, in the past, I’ve tried a sunscreen that I also loved from the First Impressions, but found negative effects once I continued to use it. The La Roche Posay Anthelios sunscreen was great, for example, but my eyes stung so bad whenever my eyes were just a little bit teary. I still finished the product in this case, but that was the only negative.
Available for $16 at Walmart and Skin Proud.
OVERALL
I will continue to try out the Skin Proud Serious Shade SPF and see if I find any adverse reactions. I hope that I don’t find any, because if so, this would definitely be one that I would repurchase.
