I wanted to try a lighter base product for the summertime, so I opened up the Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20. It has pretty great reviews on Sephora, with 4 out of 5 stars. I didn’t have a tinted moisturizer in my collection, so I was excited to try one out.
Rare Beauty hasn’t led me astray yet, so I had pretty good feeling that this one would work for me as well. The only Rare Beauty product that hasn’t worked for me is the Perfect Strokes Universal Voluminizing Mascara, and the only reason that it didn’t work for me is due to the fact that I have really oily lids, so unfortunately it did streak on me.
Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer BroaD Spectrum SPF 20 Sunscreen
According to the Rare Beauty website, the Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer is supposed to provide light-medium coverage, with a blurring, but glowy effect that applies seamlessly. It comes in 24 different shades, providing a pretty good range for individuals of different skin tones.
The positive reviews of this product include satisfaction, achievement of desired coverage, and how customers liked how the Tinted Moisturizer felt once applied. The negative reviews spoke of a potential defect, some disappointment, and greasiness with wear.
The sunscreen itself is a hybrid of both chemical and physical filters. I don’t mind hybrid sunscreens although I prefer chemical sunscreens. I’m not really using this product for the sunscreen though since I like to use the appropriate amount of sunscreen before I even put my base product on.
The product also claims to be long-lasting, which is what I always look for in a base product as an oily gal.
POSITIVE LIGHT TINTED MOISTURIZER FIRST IMPRESSIONS
When I first opened the product, I was a little scared that I picked up the wrong shade. I picked out 30N, but you never really know with a product whether it will look the same as it would online and in person. Fortunately, the shade actually looked great once I applied it.
My first thought was that it seemed pretty lightweight, and easy to blend. It took around 3 to 4 small pumps of the product to cover my entire face and neck. I liked how it looked overall. When I applied other products on top of it, it didn’t mess up the product underneath.
The best part I liked about this tinted moisturizer is its longevity. Rare Beauty claimed that it would be long-lasting. I definitely agree with that claim. My longest wear with it was around 8 hours, which is around the time frame that I wear my foundations and tints. It lasted the whole day, even through hotter weather and some walking around.
It also didn’t feel uncomfortable during the whole timeframe that I was wearing it. I have pretty oily skin typically, so certain foundations can tend to slip and slide, even when I’m setting it with powder. Unfortunately, that’s just how my skin is and I haven’t found a holy grail product that will keep a foundation or tint in place.
With this product, it stayed on the face pretty well. Of course, there’s certain areas that did have some product move since I was wearing sunglasses pretty much the whole day, but it’s only the areas around my nose where my glasses were resting. Otherwise, the moisturizer stayed put on other areas.
This is a product that I can see myself continuing to wear throughout the rest of the spring and summer, and maybe even after. I like it that much. I heard that it just went back in stock though, which makes me worried to not have it when I want it.
Available for $30 at Sephora and Rare Beauty.
