Normal skin typically has high concentrations of Vitamin C. On the other hand, studies have shown that skin that has been photo-damaged and aged due to a variety of reasons such as UV irritation and exposure to pollutants can cause skin to have depleted levels of Vitamin C. To combat this, the vitamin c serum was formulated. I will be reviewing the beautycounter vitamin c serum named Counter+ All Bright C Serum.
Vitamin C can be delivered to the skin topically. The efficacy is dictated by ingredient used coupled with the cream or serum’s formulation. Vitamin C needs to be appropriately formulated to ensure that the ingredient is stabilized within the product.
Vitamin C has shown to be more potent when added with ingredients such as Vitamin E.
Potential benefits to including a Vitamin C serum/ product to your skincare routine:
- Effective for wound healing
- Stimulates elastin synthesis
- Neutralize and remove toxic oxidants
- Decrease skin aging
About BeautyCounter
BeautyCounter is a brand that focuses on clean ingredients. It sells a variety of products such as skincare, beauty, and bath. It is a fairly newer organization that started in 2013 by Gregg Renfrew. It was initiated as a response to Renfrew finding out that the United States bans a mere 30 ingredients in comparison to the European Union.
It takes into consideration a “Never List” of ingredients that would not be found in their formulation. One ingredient that I could appreciate them including is oxybenzone. If you haven’t read my sunscreen post, I’ll just say that oxybenzone is the entire reason that I did not wear sunscreen until I turned 30.

My Experience
I started using the Beautycounter Vitamin C Serum in May of 2020. I received it gifted in collaboration with Beautycounter through Octoly. I was really intrigued by the brand in general because I knew a lot of Beautycounter consultants online.
I constantly see their products on feed posts and stories. The brand is actually employs a multilevel-marketing or MLM approach. I don’t have a strong positive or negative belief about MLMs. I mostly believe that individuals should be able to partake in businesses that they want. I don’t know if I would myself partake in an MLM because the concept of social selling gives me heightened anxiety, but to each their own I believe.
Back to the serum, I did really enjoy it at first. The whole experience gives a “clean” vibe. It smells clean, not in a fragrance way, but in a green juice kinda way.
It did blend into my skin easily. It never felt heavy, nor did it weigh my skin down at any point. I used it as part of my morning routine, right after my cleanser.
There was never a day where I thought to myself that I would rather not use it, which happens more than I thought it would on a daily basis with other products.
In terms of actually changing my skin, I’m not so sure about that. Vitamin C is known to improve several aspects of the skin, but after four months, I haven’t really found major significant improvements. I have been wearing my sunscreen every day, which is vital when using a Vitamin C serum, or just generally speaking.
DISCLAIMER: I did test out other products while I started my serum though. I did try to notice whenever anything changes, like if I breakout from anything or if it caused any irritation. I also have sensitive skin that does not really approve of a lot. Also, I have oily skin. Products react to skin differently, so one product may work for me, but it may not work for you. Or in this case, the Beautycounter serum may work for you, even though it did not change anything about my skin.
I do really like the idea of clean skincare products. I am one of those people that gravitate more towards healthier alternatives which could have made me like this brand more than I should have.
Will I be continuing to use this product? At the moment, no. I have several products that I want to test out including another brand’s vitamin c serum. I am still open to testing out other products from the brand. I love Beautycounter’s packaging, the elegance is undeniable.
Have you tried out anything from this brand?
