Social media has shifted so much in the past few years. Now, with the uncertainty of Tiktok in the United States, TikTok’s creators developed a new app to compete with Instagram, attempting to continue their rising social media dominance in 2023.
Lemon8
I have to admit, when I first heard about Lemon8, I was skeptical. One of their recruiters reached out to me via email to determine my interest in posting on their app. The fee was significantly lower than most of my collaborations, but I was able to create as much as I could.
I gave the app a chance because while I was weighing the benefits and disadvantages, I decided why not. It’s a new app from Tiktok developers, I would be able to be one of the first on the app, which is vastly unlike Instagram, where it kinda feels like I’m a dime a dozen.
At first, it kinda felt like I was posting to an invisible audience. No one saw my content because no one was there. But as Tiktok does, it was able to push some Lemon8 content as the Tiktok trials were going on. People were unsure what they would do if they would lose their platforms and Instagram hasn’t been the friendliest in terms of its algorithm.
But then, one random day, people just started showing up. People started seeing my content. It was weird.
Then, even with merely 1000 followers on Lemon8, I started receiving inbound requests for collaboration. Mind you, I’ve only received gifted inbound inquiries, but I think it still shows the potential for growth on this app.
I mean Tiktok did stem from Musical.ly, and look where it is today. Only time will tell, but I will definitely continue testing it out.
The way that people describe Lemon8 is that it’s like if Pinterest and Instagram had a baby. And I can see that. There’s still super aesthetic posts on there, but even as I was making content for the app, it was focused more on including a little more educational content that just pretty pictures.
ShopMy (SHELF)
ShopMy is a newer affiliate site and app for me. In the past, I’ve tried out LTK (Rewardstyle) and ShopStyle collective, but I don’t know, they just haven’t really worked out for me.
I’ve never had a payout from ShopStyle and I’ve only made less than $250 in the two years that I’ve been on LTK. Don’t get me wrong, there are people making money on both platforms, I just don’t really find them to be easy to navigate.
The thing about ShopMy is that it makes user and creator experience so much easier. A creator is able to build out a “shelf” in which people are able to shop. The shelves includes your favorite products. You can even put your discount codes on there as a description and it makes things just so much easier.
Another benefit to ShopMy is the ability to ask brands for PR and maybe even ask them for a paid collaboration. You’re able to message brands directly on the platform. You’re just not able to do that on LTK or ShopStyle.
I’ve actually been able to receive PR because of ShopMy and its features. I’m not the best at affiliate marketing, but this platform makes me actually want to try.
If you want to sign up for ShopMy here’s my link. I would get a small commission if you use my link (and I would be super grateful), but you don’t have to use it.
OVERALL
So many changes lately! Sometimes I can’t even keep up. What do you think of Lemon8? What about ShopMy?
