Glow Recipe just released their new Glow Recipe Watermelon Sunscreen on February 22, 2022. The watermelon sunscreen is the brand’s first sunscreen release and I could not be more excited when I saw it on Octoly.
Of course I had to test it out. Anytime Glow Recipe has a release, I have to try it out. It’s possible that’s just what I feel about all skincare releases, but that’s besides the point.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Glow Recipe, it is a skincare line available on their website, Sephora, and other retailers. The brand is K-beauty inspired. I believe that the first time I heard of them, I was watching my favorite skincare Youtuber, James Welsh.
The first Glow Recipe product that I purchased is the Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream . I loved that cream. It smells like bananas, but not overpowering. Anyways, I’m getting sidetracked. You’re here for the sunscreen!

Glow Recipe designed the clean sunscreen with an SPF 50. According to the product page, it is formulated to work for all skin types. It has a blend of both chemical and mineral filters and includes Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe, and Watermelon.
Oily Skin Review
I’m reviewing this product as an oily skin and sensitive skin woman. I think that it’s good to look at reviews from the same type of skin as you because it can give you can idea about how the product could potentially work with your skin.
I have sensitive skin some days, but for the most part oily. I’m also allergic to the ingredient oxybenzone. Oxybenzone is used in some sunscreens, and if you have ever thought you were allergic to sunscreen before, I would double check if that ingredient is in the sunscreens you’ve tested.
Anyways, I really liked this sunscreen. It smells delicious! I actually enjoy putting it on, which is such a bonus for a sunscreen.
I have medium-ish skin tone. I didn’t find any white cast whenever I put it on. It was never too cake-y on my skin. Definitely lightweight even on reapplications throughout the day.
The downside
Although the sunscreen doesn’t pill on me, I have heard that other individuals who have tried out the product have experienced some pilling whenever they try to blend it into their skin. Pilling happens when products do not absorb into the skin as intended, leaving some grittiness, texture, and/or flakiness.
I’ve seen some videos on Tiktok where the pilling is obvious. My own experience with the Glow Recipe Watermelon Sunscreen didn’t have pilling and I could only attest to my own experience. Once thing that I do differently is use smaller sections of the product instead of the whole recommended amount all at once.
Another thing consumers should know is that it hurts when it gets in your eye. I would be extremely careful when applying near the eye area, because I just tried to rush before writing this blog post and I got a significant amount in my eye and eyelashes. Let’s just say that my eye is hurting, but that’s definitely just user error on my part.
Regardless of the type of sunscreen, I would try to be careful around the eye area because it is highly sensitive!
Also, if you’re not a fan of watermelon, then this may not be the sunscreen for you. For me, this sunscreen reminds me of summer and hotter months. If you’ve tried the Glow Recipe Ultra Fine Glow Watermelon Mist, it is the exact same scent.
Lastly, the sunscreen is $34 for 50 ml at Sephora and at GlowRecipe.com

Thanks for the review! I love Glow Recipe’s products and didn’t even realize they released a sunscreen. I’ll have to try it out! It kinda sucks though that you have to be careful when applying it to the eye area.
