My Experience
I purchased this product December 2020. I haven’t actually started my skincare routine yet, but I needed a new moisturizer and Drunk Elephant truly has a cult following.
My limited skincare knowledge definitely did nothing to help me decide the right product for my skin. I have oily skin that experiences a significant amount of redness. I didn’t even wear sunscreen back then.
Thinking back, I might have picked this product because of the packaging. I am definitely a sucker for lavender. I think someone also told me that I have dry skin, which caused it to overproduce sebum. I’m not so sure now because my skin, even with everything I’ve put it through in the last 6 months, continues to be an oily queen.
Anyways, I was pretty excited to try out Drunk Elephant.
After emptying the product though, I don’t really think that it’s for me.
I mean, it was okay. As far as moisturizers go, it wasn’t the worst I’ve tried, it wasn’t the best I’ve tried. It was okay.
As far as the price point, the product is $60 at Sephora for 1.69 oz or 50 mL.
The price is not as high as other high-end moisturizers like the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream that I love and have reviewed previously.
What I do love about this product and the entire Drunk Elephant product line is their smart packaging. Their moisturizers have a pump dispenser that allows only a certain amount of product out. I think this type of packaging is highly sanitary in comparison to having to use a skincare spatula every single time or using my hands which I don’t love doing.
Will I Buy it Again? No
How Would I Rate It? 5/10
What I want to try out from Drunk Elephant instead: I really want to test out the Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer instead. Out of the 5.7K reviews on Sephora, it has 4/5 stars, which is pretty good. In comparison the Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream has 1.5K reviews with 4/5 stars.
The formulation for this moisturizer includes peptides, stem cell extract, folic acid ferment extract (vitamin B), acetyle glutamine. It has no fragrance and it has a pH level of 4.0. I still need to figure out which pH would be the best for me, but I do enjoy different formulations.
I used the moisturizer in my morning routine. I loved it at first, if I remember correctly, but I stopped using it and replaced it with the Fenty Skin moisturizer and spf combo. I went back to it so that it is not wasted and I wanted to empty the product.
When I purchased it, it came with two deluxe samples, the C-Firma Day Serum and the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum. The C-Firma Day Serum was one of my first experiences with Vitamin C, I need to test it again.
I wish I could report that I have found my Holy Grail moisturizer. I am always on the lookout for something that speaks well to my skin, but unfortunately, I am still on my search.
