Though the holidays are fast approaching, the current news landscape continues to trend towards a series of unfortunate events. The Matilda Djerf controversy has an update with the CEO making a post on Instagram. Blake Lively’s team filed a lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. On a lighter note, a couple products were released and I finally emptied a couple things. Balance, am I right?

The Djerf Avenue Response
If you haven’t heard about the controversy surrounding Matilda Djerf and her brand, here’s a quick rundown: Employees were interviewed anonymously about the work conditions at Djerf Avenue. Allegedly, several employees suffered mistreatment and a hostile work environment.
Matilda Djerf responded to the negative press through an Instagram post outlining her plans moving forward. She seems to be focused on creating a more inclusive environment by implementing company changes while making a psychologist available to employees.
Responses to the Instagram post vary, from individuals accepting the response to the situation, to individuals believing that she needs to take better responsibility.
It Ends With Us (The Blake Lively Allegations)
Last week, I was talking about how Blake Lively won an award for her new hair care line. Beauty Inc Awards picked Blake Brown as the Newcomer of the Year.
I was concerned about the negative press that Blake Lively was receiving, I even included how hesitant I was to purchase from her line due to the information surrounding both the movie release and the launch. Unfortunately, this response seems to be exactly as planned … by Justin Baldoni. Lively filed a complaint against Baldoni over inappropriate behavior during the filming of It Ends With Us.
The lawsuit touched upon several issues like sexual harassment, inappropriate behavior, and a smear campaign to ensure that the general public sided with him from the beginning. Justin Baldoni is now dropped by his talent agency as the allegations became public. Several individuals who worked with Blake Lively showed support behind the actress including her co-stars from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
I haven’t been able to read through the whole court document, but the few paragraphs I’ve read already make me feel uncomfortable, with Baldoni allegedly using his influence in the production to force Lively in miserable and awkward positions.
L’Oreal and Korean Skincare
L’Oreal recently acquired Gowoonsesang Cosmetics, including the brand Dr. G. The company has acknowledged the ever increasing Korean beauty presence within Western markets. The acquisition could potentially benefit Western markets in the sense that more individuals would have access to different formulas that would better fit their skin type.
New Releases in December 2024
Dior Beauty recently released 10 new shades for the Dior Addict Lip Glow with an assortment of cool and warm shades. I am pretty curious about how these differ from the previous formula. I’ll get back to you guys on this, I picked up two different shades. Another cute little release is the Laneige S’more Kisses Set for $27. The set includes a mini Lip Sleeping Mask in Chocolate and a full sized Lip Glow Balm in Vanilla.
Recent Empties
I was pretty excited about finishing a couple products this week and I was able to finish three that I feel I’ve been working on for a long time.
Brazilian Bum Bum Cream
I believe that this has been the second time I’ve emptied a full sized Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. I still remember how I found out about Sol de Janeiro. I was really deep into Beauty Blogger Youtube back in the day and every single one of them was talking about this new line called Sol de Janeiro. I had to go to Sephora to check it out of course, and I haven’t stopped repurchasing since.
If you do want a thicker cream to address various issues like dryness, I don’t know if I could recommend this one. It is lightweight, but oddly takes a little longer to blend into the skin in comparison to other lightweight creams. I will say that I do love the scent though. Also, it now comes in refill sizes, slightly better for the environment.
I haven’t repurchased this specific one yet, but I did recently purchase the Cheirosa 71 Body Cream at Ulta. I wasn’t necessarily looking for a body cream, but I opened it up and fell in love. I’ve been purchasing Sol de Janeiro for years now but I don’t think I’ve ever given Cheirosa 71 a chance. I really thought that it was just a stronger version of Cheirosa 62. I actually might like 71 better than 62 now, but we shall see as I keep testing it out.
Lush Snow Fairy Scrub
I was playing with fire on this scrub since I was using it over a month after its expiration date. The scrub still smelled good though so I still used it. I love the Snow Fairy scent. I believe that it comes around during the holidays, and though I wouldn’t necessarily equate the scent to the holidays, I think it’s delicious.
I’ve also tried the jelly, which was fun but proved to be a little messy in the shower. This particularly messy since I haven’t really used a jelly before, it kept disintegrating in the shower which wasn’t the best, but it smelled great at least.
Function of Beauty Hair Mask
I liked this mask! I’ve had it for a while and it lasts for a long time. I think that it’s fairly priced at $24. Not sure if it would be in the rotation in the near future but I did enjoy using it. Moisturizing, but isn’t too heavy.
Last Thoughts
The holiday season is in full effect as I’m writing this Christmas night. It was a little exhausting, but at least Christmas is done and there’s a new year to look forward to.
