I have newfound love affair with sunscreen, which is why it pains me to bring you these two cerave sunscreen fails because I’m always rooting for drugstore products. Drugstore products are easily accessible and if you’re a member of their programs, they send out multiple discount offers. I’m always down for a good sale.
Having a good sunscreen can really be the difference of you actually using your sunscreen on a regular basis, or just dreading the thought of actually putting sunscreen on. I know my prior experiences with sunscreen have been terrible which lead to me believing that I shouldn’t even bother with applying it.
Cerave Sunscreen Fails
There are reasons as to why the Cerave sunscreen line did not work for my sensitive, oily skin. In skincare, we really need to figure out what works for us because it should be an enjoyable experience, something that becomes a self-care routine.
I tested out two specific products from Cerave hoping to get something from the drugstore that I could easily include in my routine.
- Cerave Hydrating Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Face
- Cerave Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Face Sheer Tint
Unfortunately, I would not recommend these products for anyone who has a similar skin type as me.
Cerave Hydrating Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Face
Active Ingredients: Titanium dioxide 9% Zinc oxide 7%
My experience: Although this sunscreen is formulated to be lightweight, it was definitely far from lightweight on me. It was really hard to rub into the skin, in fact it actually never did. It has such an extreme white cast on me that I had to put on a little bit of foundation in order to not look like Casper the friendly ghost. It set on top of my skin poorly, looking really dry and flaky. It also caused a significant amount of pilling. I could not wear it unless I wasn’t leaving the house because foundation didn’t look good on top of it either.
Cerave Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Face Sheer Tint
Active Ingredients: Titanium dioxide 5.5% Zinc oxide 10%
My experience: I purchased this sunscreen after seeing it on Tiktok as an alternative to the Cerave SPF 50. I figured that it was tinted which meant that it could potentially work on my skin and the color on the box looked closer to my skintone. It did not work out. It was entirely too dark for my skintone, but at least it wasn’t a white cast as before. Mostly I looked like I didn’t know how to color match, which is also quite unfortunate. I would definitely pass on this as well unless you are able to test out the product first and see if it actually blends into your skin.
Sunscreen Learning Experience
Although these Cerave sunscreen fails were unfortunate, at least I am able to write about my experience in case you are in search of a good sunscreen and you happen to be browsing through a drugstore debating about this product. I can only talk about my experience with these specific products. I do enjoy other Cerave products such as their Foaming Facial Cleanser. That cleanser is definitely worth the hype for me and will forever be a staple for my oily skin.
Cerave Sunscreen Fails, but how what?
I have to talk about my favorite sunscreen that no one really talks about which is the make p:rem Daily Sun Essence. I cannot talk about this product enough. Every single time I test out a new sunscreen it doesn’t compare to how great this product feels on my skin. It is never too heavy or drying. It doesn’t sting my eye either, so it’s just overall a good product.
